Spotlight Saturday, Shoshana Pear, M.S., CCC-SLP
What drew you to HASA originally? When completing my undergraduate degree, I was looking for a place to observe Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and someone recommended HASA. Once I came, I was so impressed by the knowledge, expertise, and professionalism of the staff here that I planted it in my mind as a place that I would like to return. I requested to come here as a graduate school placement and was privileged to learn from some of the SLPs here. Then after completing my Clinical Fellowship year, I was fortunate to be able to return here as an SLP for Clinical Services and Gateway School.
How long have you been affiliated with HASA and in what capacity? Since 2014, in the capacity of an intern and then SLP.
What is your favorite memory with HASA? My favorite times are watching the magic that happens with the right combination of intervention, child development, and environment for a child to blossom and become a more effective communicator. I also love watching those "light bulb moments" when a new concept "clicks." It's so gratifying!
What's the one thing you want people to know about HASA? HASA is an agency with a unique blend of skilled professionals and a warm, inclusive approach towards our clients, their families, and the community at large. Our goal is for people to be successful in life and we are committed to facilitating that in a way that works best for the individual. And another big perk: we have a state-of-the-art, spacious and well-designed facility!
What are three words to describe HASA? Dedicated, warm, client-centered
What is your favorite word? Today my favorite word is: YES! with "connection" following as a close 2nd.
What do you like most about HASA? I love the people here - both clients and co-workers. We have a fantastic team of professionals who are friendly, dedicated, and committed, and I love working with our wonderful clients! I love working in a place that so strongly values community and is dedicated to helping everyone!
What have you gained from being affiliated with HASA? A rewarding, meaningful and enjoyable place of employment where I can collaborate with different professionals including occupational therapy, audiology, special education, sign language interpreters, and other SLPs to most effectively treat my clients-all under the same roof! I love that I have what I need to do my job well!
