Spotlight Saturday: Sara Frederick - Speech-Language Pathologist, Clinical Fellow
What drew you to HASA originally? I was looking for a Clinical Fellowship that offered me the opportunity to grow as a clinician under the guidance of area experts. Not only am I constantly learning from our fluency, literacy, language, and voice specialists, our OTs and Audiologists are always willing to share insight and resources to serve our shared clients in the best manner.
How long have you been affiliated with HASA and in what capacity? I started with HASA in September 2016 as a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist. I'm often upstairs in the clinic, but you can also find me and my "office on wheels" in parochial schools through our BCPS contract, at Friends School, and completing evaluations for the Baltimore City Infants & Toddlers Program.
What is your favorite memory with HASA? I loved HASA's Family Fun Day last fall. I was still relatively new to the organization and it was a great opportunity to get to know my coworkers, clients, and their families.
What's the one thing you want people to know about HASA? We are constantly developing as individuals and departments to evolve overall as an organization. Look out for exciting new events and programs!
What are three words to describe HASA? Warm, dedicated, supportive
What is your favorite word? I love a good portmanteau (blending sounds from two words to make a new word). We all know the classics like "brunch," "spork," and "chocoholic," but if you're ever looking for more, I have a book in my office called That Should Be a Word. Stop by and check it out!
What do you like most about HASA? I love that HASA's employees have a voice in the continuous development of the organization. From our search for the new executive director to creating new programs and events, I know our ideas and passions are valued. I'm really looking forward to contributing to HASA's evolution.
What have you gained from being affiliated with HASA? Continuous opportunities to build relationships and make memories with my incredible colleagues and clients.
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us. I've had a perpetually fierce "Hangman" competition going on with my grandfather since I could read. I'm clearly a word nerd, so maybe that didn't surprise you... I've also run two half marathons since starting at HASA!
