Spotlight Saturday, Penny Herb, 1:1 Instructional Assistant
What drew you to HASA originally? I had always thought about getting my master's degree in special education but felt I was getting to an age and financial constraints that I'd never have the opportunity to do so. Fortunately for me, HASA had a position in Gateway that was a perfect opportunity to get back in the teaching field working with the children I'd always wanted to work with.
How long have you been affiliated with HASA and in what capacity? I was hired as a substitute November 2015, then became a full time 1:1/Instructional Assistant January 2016.
What is your favorite memory with HASA? I can't pick just one memory. My favorites are always tied up in a child making eye contact with me and smiling or laughing while we are working together.
What's the one thing you want people to know about HASA? I want people to know how dedicated the teachers and Instructional Assistants are here at HASA.
What are three words to describe HASA? Dedicated, loving, and beautiful.
What is your favorite word? AWESOME!
What do you like most about HASA? The kids, of course!
What have you gained from being affiliated with HASA? The opportunity to make a difference in the lives of some really awesome kids.
Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us. I love backcountry camping.
