Speech-Language Therapy

Speech-Language Therapy

In the United States, 10% of adults and children live with a speech-language disorder or delay. An untreated speech-language disorder can lead to difficulties in school, social isolation, and progressive learning disabilities. Intervention can have a significant impact on the quality of speech and communication—and the quality of life—for most patients and their families.

Our speech-language pathologists and audiologists are certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and are licensed by the Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers & Speech-Language Pathologists.

HASA evaluates and treats clients of all ages. Because of staff expertise and sophisticated technology, we can offer a variety of options for overcoming problems involving:

  • Speech/articulation
  • Oral-motor abilities
  • Auditory processing
  • Phonological awareness
  • Stuttering
  • Voice
  • Language learning abilities
  • Language-based reading difficulties
  • Therapy related to cochlear implants and/or hearing loss
  • Auditory/oral therapy
  • Accent modification

Indications that an evaluation may be needed:

  • Difficulty speaking or being understood
  • Problems understanding / following directions
  • Trouble with memory / attention
  • Difficulty finding words to express basic needs
  • Problems with reading writing
  • Hoarseness / difficulty swallowing

Speech-Language Services in the Community

Early identification of speech and language difficulties is critical to a child’s development and academic success. We welcome the opportunity to come to your school to perform speech-language screenings for your students. Results of the screenings indicate whether or not a speech-language evaluation should be conducted. Depending on availability, speech therapy may be able to be provided in the school setting. Prices vary with the size of the group. Please contact Olga Polites, Director, Speech-Language Pathology and Hearing Health Services, at opolites@hasa.org or 410.318.6780 for more information.
