Language Access and Inclusion Director

Supervises smooth, daily operation of Interpreting and Sign-Language programming including but not limited to customer service, staffing, budgeting, program development, educational programming, outreach, and advocacy. Responsible for business development and fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Endorsing HASA’s mission and vision
  • Fostering a spirit of interprofessional collaboration
  • Conducting strategic analysis and marketing activities
  • Building relationships and growing networks
  • Negotiating contracts; strategic business/program development
  • Developing performance metrics and associated reports
  • Overseeing interpreting and sign language programs, ensuring contracts fulfilled with fidelity
  • Creating, monitoring, and meeting budget guidelines
  • Supervising and evaluating team members
  • Recommending new hires, promotions, and terminations
  • Supervising the 24/7/365 coverage of on-call services; covering shifts as required
  • Recruiting, onboarding, and evaluating interpreters
  • Interpreting (e.g., emergency requests)
  • Monitoring program and interpreting quality
  • Representing HASA to the Maryland Deaf and Hard of Hearing community as well as in relevant associations and organizations
  • Advocating for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community to stakeholders
  • Completing other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in related field required, MBA preferred
  • Five to seven years of interpreter business experience
  • RID Certified Interpreter required
  • Good standing member of PCRID
  • Ability to travel to customer and community sites
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Exceptional written communication skills
  • Proven endeavors toward professional growth and learning
  • Digital literacy and exceptional organizational skills
  • Competence with Microsoft Office and Google Suites & databases
  • Experience working for a nonprofit organization a plus; willingness to foster an environment of general delightfulness required.
