A Tricky #ThrowbackThursday - Hearing and Speech Agency

A Tricky #ThrowbackThursday

This week's #ThrowbackThursday is a little difficult. While the picture itself was taken in the late 1990s, the artifacts in the picture are actually from the 1940s. What you see is a book of the cumulative bulletin for the Baltimore League for the Hard of Hearing (what we were known as at the time) from 1940-1945. On top of the book is one of the cooler inventions of the time: a hearing aid disguised as a pearl necklace. Because hearing aids could be big, bulky, and obvious (and sometimes a source of embarassment for some), hearing aid manufacturers found creative ways to blend the hearing aid into an outfit: for example, a pearl necklace.
